Peru Verification Numbers for Product, QA and Fintech Teams
You can receive Peru (+51) verification codes with OTP Route by ordering a temporary number from the OTP Gateway and reading the SMS in the dashboard or through the API and signed webhooks. Codes cost from $0.20 per code, and if nothing arrives within 20 minutes the full charge goes back to your wallet.
Why does Peru show up in so many Latin American test plans?
Peru is one of the larger Spanish-speaking markets in South America, and its smartphone users lean heavily on messaging and mobile payments. Local wallets such as Yape and Plin made phone-number-based sign-up feel normal, so a fintech, delivery or marketplace product entering Lima is expected to verify users by SMS from day one.
Teams usually meet Peru as part of a regional rollout alongside Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Bolivia. The flows look identical on paper, yet each country has its own number shape, and a +51 number for testing is how you prove your onboarding handles it. Our page on fintech onboarding covers the wider pattern.
How are Peruvian mobile numbers written and normalized?
Peruvian mobile numbers have nine digits and begin with 9. Mobiles are dialed without a trunk prefix, so the full international form is +51 followed by those nine digits, such as +519XXXXXXXX. Landlines are different: they carry an area code, and a domestic long-distance call adds a 0 in front, which belongs to local dialing and never to E.164.
Practical rules for your backend:
- Persist one canonical value,
+51plus the national digits, in a single column. - When users paste numbers with spaces, dashes or a
0051prefix, strip them before saving. - If a value has ten national digits starting with
0, treat it as a landline typed with the trunk digit and drop that zero. - Show a local display format in the UI, but send only the E.164 string to your SMS verification API.
What language do Peruvian codes arrive in?
Spanish is spoken by most of the population, and Quechua and Aymara are also official languages. Most services address Peruvian numbers in Spanish, though wording depends on the sender and on the account's language setting. Your extraction step should therefore look for the digit group, not for a phrase like "código", so the same parser survives a Spanish, English or Portuguese template. For localization QA, a real Peru verification number confirms that accented characters, the code screen and any resend timer all render correctly in Spanish.
Which apps can text a code to a Peru verification number?
Popular routes in the current snapshot include WhatsApp, Telegram, Google (Gmail & YouTube), Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), ChatGPT (OpenAI), Microsoft & Outlook, Amazon, Uber, LinkedIn, Netflix, AliExpress and Discord. Altogether the OTP Gateway lists more than 1,700 services for Peru.
Inventory moves during the day, so the live catalogue is the source of truth. Fetch it at the start of a run and skip routes that are unavailable rather than failing the whole suite.
What does a Peru OTP API integration look like?
Create a Bearer key (prefix or_live_) in the Developer console. An account can hold up to 10 keys and 5 webhook endpoints and may make 300 requests per minute against https://otproute.com/api/v1.
A typical job runs in this order. It confirms the price with GET /api/v1/prices?country=pe&service=uber, then opens an order through POST /api/v1/activations with {"service": "uber", "country": "pe"}. The returned +51 number goes into the app under test. Your service then either receives activation.sms_received on its webhook or polls GET /api/v1/activations/{id} until a code is present, and calls POST /api/v1/activations/{id}/cancel if the test ends early. GET /api/v1/balance is handy as a pre-flight check so a pipeline never starts with an empty wallet.
Validate each webhook's X-OTPRoute-Signature header by computing HMAC-SHA256 of <t>.<raw body> with the endpoint secret, and reject old timestamps. Before spending real funds, ask for sandbox mode on a development account; it returns simulated numbers and codes so you can test the whole OTP routing path. The integration guide has a longer walkthrough.
Can the operations team use the dashboard instead?
They can, with no code at all. Open the OTP Gateway in the dashboard, select Peru, pick the service, check the displayed price and confirm. Copy the +51 number into the app, trigger the SMS, and watch the order card: the code appears there once it lands.
Each order stays live for 20 minutes and serves one code. If the window closes empty, or you cancel, the money is returned to the wallet automatically, so you are charged only when a code really arrives.
What should I try when a +51 code does not appear?
Delivery time depends on the service and the route, so let the window run before drawing conclusions. If a route stays quiet:
- Wait a while and try again, or switch to another service route for the same test.
- Confirm the target service accepts virtual numbers; some refuse them, and the refund covers that case.
- Throttle retries in automation instead of ordering again and again in a tight loop.
Legitimate use only: test your own product, run your own business accounts, follow every service's terms, and remember OTP Route's Acceptable Use Policy applies.
Can we keep a Peruvian number long term, and how do we pay?
Not as a self-serve product. Dedicated Numbers exist only for the United States and Canada, from $1.95/month. For a long-term Peruvian line, write to [email protected]; the team will look at what local rules permit, with no promise of availability.
Billing uses a single prepaid USD wallet: pay as you go, no monthly fee, top-ups by card or USDT/USDC, and a PDF invoice by email for each top-up. See pricing for the live view.
Frequently asked questions
Can I test my app's Peruvian sign-up flow without a local SIM?
Yes. A +51 number from the OTP Gateway receives the code, which you read in the dashboard or collect with the API.
What is the OTP Route country id for Peru?
It is pe, used in calls such as POST /api/v1/activations and GET /api/v1/prices.
Do Peruvian mobile numbers need a trunk zero in E.164?
No. Mobiles are nine digits starting with 9 and are stored as +51 plus those digits, without any zero.
What does it cost to receive a Peru SMS OTP?
From $0.20 per code, with the exact amount depending on the service. Nothing is charged if no SMS arrives within the 20-minute window.
Will the same +51 number work for a second login later?
No, a gateway number handles one code. For repeat logins, a Dedicated Number in the US or Canada is the right tool.
Can our team pay invoices with stablecoins?
Yes. The wallet accepts USDT and USDC as well as cards, and each top-up is followed by a PDF invoice by email.
