Receiving LinkedIn SMS codes on OTP Route numbers: checklist and steps
A team can receive a LinkedIn verification code on an OTP Route number by ordering the linkedin service on the OTP Gateway for the country it needs, then reading the SMS in the dashboard or catching it through a signed webhook or REST polling, from $0.20 per code. Each activation lasts 20 minutes, and if LinkedIn never sends the code, the charge returns to your wallet.
When does LinkedIn ask for a phone number?
LinkedIn uses a phone number in a few well-known places. It may request one during account creation, it can send an SMS code when a sign-in looks unusual, it offers text-message codes as one option for two-step verification, and a verified LinkedIn phone number gives the member another way to recover access after a lost password.
For a business, those moments matter when you build or support something around LinkedIn: an internal tool that a company page administrator signs into, a recruiting team's shared workflow, or a QA plan that checks how your own product behaves when staff connect a LinkedIn account. Each case needs a number the team controls rather than an employee's personal mobile.
Pre-flight checklist before ordering a LinkedIn number
- Decide whether you need one code or many. A single verification fits the OTP Gateway. An account that will log in again with SMS two-step later belongs on a Dedicated Number (see below).
- Choose the country to match the account. The number's country should fit where the member or business actually operates.
- Create a Bearer key (prefix
or_live_) in the Developer console and store it as a secret. - Register a webhook endpoint and save its signing secret, or plan to poll.
- Check the live price for
linkedinin your chosen country. - Confirm the account is legitimate: a real person or a real business, one account each, used under LinkedIn's User Agreement and our Acceptable Use Policy.
The gateway exists for testing and operating your own legitimate accounts and products. It is not a tool for creating profiles at volume.
Which countries can receive LinkedIn SMS verification for testing?
The linkedin service is listed in 202 countries. Examples include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Austria, Spain, India, the Philippines, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico and Australia.
Country choice is not cosmetic. LinkedIn sees the number's country alongside the account's location and language, so a test of your German onboarding should use a German number, and a support line for a US team should be American. Mismatched combinations make the test less representative and may draw extra checks from the platform.
Steps: the LinkedIn verification code API flow
GET /api/v1/prices?country=<id>&service=linkedinconfirms availability and price for the chosen country.POST /api/v1/activationswith{"service": "linkedin", "country": "<id>"}returns a number and an activation id. Country ids come fromGET /api/v1/countries.- Enter the number in LinkedIn's phone field and request the SMS.
- Receive
activation.sms_receivedon your webhook. Before acting on it, recompute HMAC-SHA256 over<t>.<raw body>with the endpoint secret, compare it with thev1value inX-OTPRoute-Signature, and drop requests whosetis old. - Store the result keyed on the activation id, so a redelivered event is a harmless no-op.
- Prefer polling? Call
GET /api/v1/activations/{id}on a gentle interval, staying well inside the 300 requests per minute account limit. - Cancel unused orders with
POST /api/v1/activations/{id}/cancel.

Steps for receiving a LinkedIn OTP in the dashboard
- Sign in and open the OTP Gateway.
- Pick the country, then search for LinkedIn and review the price.
- Order and copy the number into LinkedIn's verification prompt.
- Watch the activation card; the text message appears there once delivered.
The whole sequence fits inside the 20-minute window, and nothing has to be installed.
Troubleshooting a LinkedIn code that never arrives
- LinkedIn may decline virtual numbers. Like many platforms, it can refuse a number type it does not want to verify. If no SMS comes, you are not charged: the full amount goes back to the wallet when the window closes or when you cancel.
- Wait out the window before ordering again.
- Retry later or try another country route that still fits the account.
- Do not re-order in a tight loop. Repeated rapid requests waste your budget and look worse to the platform.
The failed delivery guide lists further checks.
When is a dedicated number the better virtual number for LinkedIn?
An activation number handles one code. If LinkedIn will text the account again later, for two-step sign-ins or recovery, the number has to stay with you. That is the job of a Dedicated Virtual Number: available instantly in the United States and Canada, from $1.95/month, with inbound SMS shown in the dashboard and forwarded to your webhook as number.sms_received, plus outbound SMS and browser calling. It suits a company page admin login or a shared operations account that should not depend on one employee's phone. Compare both options on virtual numbers.
Everything is paid from one prepaid USD wallet with no monthly fee; top up by card or USDT/USDC and receive a PDF invoice each time. A development account can be moved to sandbox on request for simulated numbers and codes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I receive a LinkedIn code for my own test account?
Yes, for accounts you legitimately own or operate. Order linkedin on the OTP Gateway and read the code in the dashboard or via webhook.
What does a LinkedIn SMS verification cost?
From $0.20 per code, depending on the country. You pay only if the code arrives.
Why didn't LinkedIn send a code to my virtual number?
LinkedIn may reject some virtual numbers, and routes vary through the day. The activation is refunded automatically, so retry later or try another fitting country.
Can I use the same number for LinkedIn two-step verification every week?
Not with an activation, which covers one code. A US or Canada Dedicated Number is the right choice for repeat logins.
Is it allowed to create several LinkedIn profiles this way?
No. LinkedIn's terms expect one account per real person, and our Acceptable Use Policy does not permit fake profiles or mass sign-ups.
Does LinkedIn know the number came from OTP Route?
OTP Route has no affiliation with LinkedIn, and LinkedIn decides for itself which numbers it accepts. LinkedIn is a trademark of its owner.
Service names are trademarks of their respective owners. OTP Route is not affiliated with them. Use numbers lawfully, follow each service's terms and our Acceptable Use Policy.
