Getting an Uber SMS code onto a number your team controls
To receive an Uber verification code with OTP Route, order a one-time number for the uber service in your chosen country from the OTP Gateway, enter it on the Uber phone screen, and read the code in the dashboard or through the API and signed webhooks. Pricing starts at $0.20 per code, and if no SMS arrives within 20 minutes the amount goes back to your wallet.
Why does a team end up needing an Uber code on a non-personal number?
The situation is usually mundane. An operations manager sets up a company rider account for staff travel and does not want it bound to one employee's mobile. A QA engineer checks a travel or expense product that links to Uber and needs a clean account in the target market. A localisation reviewer wants to see the sign-up path the way a user in Lisbon or Mexico City does.
In each case the blocker is the phone step. Uber asks for a mobile number when an account is created and sends a code by SMS to confirm it, and it may ask again on a new device or when account details change. A number your team controls, rather than someone's personal SIM, keeps that step predictable. The privacy-first sign-up guide covers the reasoning in more depth.
Which countries can receive Uber SMS verification for testing?
Uber routes are listed in 198 countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, India, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, Colombia, Poland and Japan.
Pick the country that matches the account's real market or the scenario under test. Uber decides where it operates and may treat a number from one country differently from another, so a +52 number belongs in a Mexico test, not a German one. Availability on our side also shifts during the day, so query it live rather than assuming yesterday's routes are still open.
How does the Uber verification code API flow work?
Requests go to https://otproute.com/api/v1 with a Bearer key (prefix or_live_) generated in the Developer console. The service id is uber.
- Find the country id with
GET /api/v1/countries, for examplemxorbr. - Check price and availability through
GET /api/v1/prices?country=<id>&service=uber. - Order via
POST /api/v1/activationswith a body such as{"service": "uber", "country": "mx"}, and keep the activation id. - Enter the number on the Uber screen.
- Handle the
activation.sms_receivedwebhook, or pollGET /api/v1/activations/{id}. - Cancel with
POST /api/v1/activations/{id}/cancelif the run is aborted.
For webhooks, check X-OTPRoute-Signature (t=<unix>,v1=<hex>) by computing HMAC-SHA256 of <t>.<raw body> with the endpoint secret, and reject old timestamps. Make the handler idempotent by recording each activation id, because a delivery can be retried. More detail lives in the docs.
What is the manual route for an ops manager with no API key?
Open the OTP Gateway in the dashboard, select Uber, choose the country, and confirm the price shown. After ordering, copy the number into the Uber app or website, request the code, and watch the activation page; the SMS appears there when it is delivered. Cancelling an unused activation refunds it straight away.
Uber did not send the code. What usually explains it?
Uber, like many services, may refuse virtual numbers in some flows or markets, and that decision is outside our control. That possibility is exactly why the refund rule exists: if no code arrives during the 20-minute window, or you cancel, the full amount returns to the wallet, so you only pay if the code arrives.
When a code is missing, let the window run before acting, then retry later or with a different country that still fits your test. Do not reorder in a tight loop; repeated requests from one screen can trigger rate limits on Uber's side and make results worse. The failed delivery guide lists further checks.
When is a Dedicated Number the better fit for an Uber account?
A one-time number receives a single code and is then gone. That suits a test that ends after sign-up, but not a company account that must log in again next month or recover access after a phone change. For those, a Dedicated Virtual Number in the United States or Canada, from $1.95/month, stays with you while it renews, receives SMS in the dashboard and on your webhook via number.sms_received, and can be released at any time. Outside the US and Canada no self-serve long-term line exists; email [email protected] to ask.
Usage is paid from one prepaid USD wallet with no monthly fee, funded by card or USDT/USDC, with a PDF invoice per top-up. A sandbox mode is available on request for development accounts.
What counts as responsible use with Uber?
Follow Uber's terms. Keep to one account per real person or business, and use OTP Route only to test or operate your own legitimate accounts and products. Driver and courier accounts involve identity and document checks that a phone number does not replace, so they should sit on a number the account holder controls for the long term. Uber is a trademark of its owner, OTP Route is not affiliated with it, and OTP Route's Acceptable Use Policy applies to every order.
Frequently asked questions
How do I receive an Uber OTP through an API?
Create an activation with service uber and your country id, then collect the code from the activation.sms_received webhook or by polling the activation.
Can I use a virtual number for Uber?
You can try one, but Uber may reject virtual numbers in some cases. If no code arrives, the order is refunded automatically.
What does an Uber verification number cost?
From $0.20 per code; the live price depends on the country and is returned by the prices endpoint.
Which country should I choose for an Uber phone number?
Choose the market the account or test case belongs to, since Uber handles numbers according to where it operates.
Can I log back into an Uber account later with the same one-time number?
No. A one-time number takes one code; for repeat logins use a US or Canadian Dedicated Number.
How long does the Uber activation stay open?
Twenty minutes. If the SMS has not arrived by then, the activation expires and you are refunded.
Is OTP Route affiliated with Uber?
No. Uber is a trademark of its owner, and you must follow its terms when you use any number.
Service names are trademarks of their respective owners. OTP Route is not affiliated with them. Use numbers lawfully, follow each service's terms and our Acceptable Use Policy.
