🔒 Privacy-First Signups

Verify accounts without handing out personal numbers

Every time a team member signs up for a vendor trial, a test environment or a third-party tool with their personal phone number, that number joins another database, another marketing list and another potential breach. For companies, it also ties business accounts to individuals rather than to the organisation.

OTP Route supports a privacy-first approach. Teams can receive one-off verification codes on temporary numbers for evaluations and test accounts, and use dedicated US or Canadian numbers when an account needs a stable, organisation-owned contact. Codes arrive in the dashboard or through the REST API and signed webhooks. Privacy-first does not mean anonymous misuse: numbers must be used in line with each service's terms, and OTP Route must not be used for fraud, ban evasion or fake identities. Live inventory varies by service and time, and unused activations are refunded.

The problem

⚠️

Employees expose personal numbers to vendors, trials and test tools

⚠️

Business accounts become tied to individuals' phones

⚠️

Personal numbers attract unwanted marketing and widen exposure in data breaches

How OTP Route helps

🧭

Separate work from personal

Use temporary verification numbers for trials and evaluations, keeping employees' personal numbers out of vendor databases. This reduces unwanted marketing and limits personal exposure if a vendor later suffers a data breach or sells its contact lists to third parties.

⚡

Organisation-owned numbers

Assign dedicated US or Canadian numbers to shared business accounts so that verification and recovery remain with the company. When people change roles, the number and its message history stay in the organisation's account rather than leaving with the employee.

🔐

Minimal data sharing

Requesting a number requires only your OTP Route account, so employees do not need to hand their own contact details to every service they evaluate. Combined with your own data-minimisation policies, this supports privacy-by-design practices across the organisation.

📈

Clear responsible-use rules

Protecting privacy is a legitimate goal, but evading bans, creating fake identities or committing fraud is not. Our terms draw this line clearly, and accounts showing abusive patterns are suspended, which protects the legitimate users of the platform.

A typical workflow

Identify vendor trials and test accounts that currently use personal numbers

Request a temporary activation in the dashboard or via API for one-off signups

Rent a dedicated US/CA number for accounts that need long-term recovery

Record account ownership in your internal password or asset manager

Review activation history periodically to keep track of accounts created

FAQ

Is it acceptable to use a verification number for signups?
Using a separate number to protect personal privacy is a common practice, but you must follow each service's terms and the laws that apply to you. Some services require a personal or long-term number. OTP Route must not be used to impersonate others, evade bans, commit fraud or create fake identities.
Can I recover an account later with a temporary number?
Temporary activations are designed for one-off verification, and the same number may not be available later. For accounts you may need to recover, use a dedicated US or Canadian number, or add another recovery method controlled by your organisation, such as a shared mailbox.
Who can see codes received on our numbers?
Codes and messages received on your activations and dedicated numbers are shown in your account dashboard and delivered to your configured webhook endpoint. Protect your account credentials, API key and webhook secret, and limit access to the people who genuinely need it.
