Getting a Claude phone verification through without using a personal mobile
To receive a Claude verification code with OTP Route, order a number for the Claude service in the country where the account will actually be used, enter it when Claude asks for a phone number, and read the code in the dashboard or from the API. The OTP Gateway charges from $0.20 per code, and the amount is refunded if no SMS arrives within the 20-minute window.
What situation sends a team looking for a separate number for Claude?
A company decides to give engineers, analysts or support staff access to Claude for drafting, coding help or research. Each person needs an account, and the sign-up may ask for a mobile number. Many employees would rather not attach a work tool to their private SIM, and IT teams dislike accounts that depend on a phone the company does not control.
A second group is building on top of AI tools: QA engineers documenting a vendor onboarding path, or agencies preparing an assistant workspace for a client under that client's own name. In each case the goal is the same: one real account per real person or business, verified without exposing someone's personal number. A virtual number for Claude from the OTP Gateway covers that single verification step.
When does Claude ask for phone verification?
Claude is an AI assistant made by Anthropic. Depending on the sign-up path and region, account creation may include a phone check: you enter a mobile number and type back a one-time code sent by SMS, which helps the service confirm a real person is behind each new account. The exact steps can change over time, so treat the current screens as the source of truth.
That makes the Claude phone number a sign-up gate rather than a daily login factor in most flows. Even so, plan for the possibility of being asked again, for example during a review of the account; the number you used should still be reachable if that matters to you.
Which country should the number come from?
Claude is offered in many, but not all, countries, and the service applies its own regional rules. Pick a number from the country where the account holder actually lives and works. A number does not change where the service is available, and it must never be used to sidestep regional restrictions.
The Claude route currently spans 197 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, India, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Brazil and Mexico. Matching the number to your team's market keeps the account consistent with its billing details and the language it will be used in, and it mirrors what a real customer in that country would see.
How do we receive the Claude OTP through the API?
The service id is claude. With a Bearer key (prefix or_live_) from the Developer console, call GET /api/v1/prices?country=<id>&service=claude to see the live rate, then POST /api/v1/activations with {"service": "claude", "country": "<id>"}, where the country id comes from GET /api/v1/countries (for example gb or de). The response returns the number and an activation id.
For delivery, subscribe a webhook to activation.sms_received. Validate X-OTPRoute-Signature by recomputing HMAC-SHA256 over "<t>.<raw body>" with the endpoint secret, reject old timestamps, and make the handler idempotent by keying on the activation id, since a delivery can be retried. If inbound webhooks are awkward in your environment, poll GET /api/v1/activations/{id} at a modest interval instead. The API integration guide walks through both options for this Claude verification code API.
What are the dashboard steps for someone in IT or operations?
- Create an OTP Route account with an email code or Google sign-in, and turn on TOTP two-factor.
- Top up the USD wallet by card or USDT/USDC; there is no monthly fee.
- In the OTP Gateway, choose Claude and the country, and check the price shown before confirming.
- Paste the number into Claude's verification screen and request the SMS.
- Copy the code that appears beside the order.
The number is held for 20 minutes and receives one code. If nothing arrives, or you cancel, the full amount goes back to the wallet.
Why might the Claude code not arrive, and what then?
Claude, like many services, may refuse some virtual or non-mobile numbers, and it can limit repeated attempts from the same session. If a code does not appear:
- Wait out the window; the refund is automatic.
- Avoid re-ordering immediately in a loop. Try again later or on another route for the same country.
- Double-check that the number was entered with the right country code.
- If the service rejects the number type outright, accept that and use a different verification method it offers.

When is a Dedicated Number the better fit?
A one-time OTP Gateway number suits an account that only needs verifying once. If the account may be challenged again later, or you want a stable recovery contact the company controls, a Dedicated Number is safer. These are long-term lines in the United States and Canada, from $1.95/month, with inbound SMS in the dashboard and on the number.sms_received webhook. See virtual numbers for details.
Whatever you choose, follow Claude's terms and usage policy: one account per real person or business, no shared or throwaway accounts. OTP Route is for testing and operating your own legitimate accounts and products, and its Acceptable Use Policy applies to every order.
Frequently asked questions
Can I verify a Claude account without giving my personal phone number?
Yes. Use an OTP Gateway number for the Claude service and read the code in the dashboard, so the account is not tied to your own SIM.
What service id do I use for Claude in the OTP Route API?
Use claude as the service value in price lookups and in POST /api/v1/activations.
How many countries offer Claude numbers?
The Claude route currently covers 197 countries; check GET /api/v1/countries or the dashboard for live availability.
How much does a Claude verification number cost?
From $0.20 per code; the precise price depends on the country and is shown before you order.
Can I use a number from another country to access Claude where it is not offered?
No. Choose a number from the country where you really are; a number does not change Claude's regional availability or its rules.
What if Claude asks me to verify the phone again later?
A one-time number will no longer be reachable, so for accounts that must stay recoverable use a US or Canadian Dedicated Number.
Is OTP Route affiliated with Anthropic?
No. Claude is a trademark of its owner, and OTP Route simply provides numbers for receiving verification codes.
Service names are trademarks of their respective owners. OTP Route is not affiliated with them. Use numbers lawfully, follow each service's terms and our Acceptable Use Policy.
