Capturing Myanmar (+95) SMS codes for product and QA teams
Yes: OTP Route can receive Myanmar (+95) SMS verification codes on a one-time OTP Gateway number, shown in the dashboard and delivered to your systems by REST polling or a signed webhook. Pricing starts at $0.20 per code, the exact rate is returned live per service, and the charge only sticks if the code arrives within 20 minutes.
Before ordering: is a single code enough, or do you need a line you keep?
Most Myanmar test cases are single events: a user registers, confirms a new phone, or passes a login challenge. For those, a one-time number from the OTP Gateway is the right tool. It handles one code for one service and then closes.
The other case is a staff or QA account that has to receive codes again next month. A disposable number cannot do that. OTP Route's Dedicated Numbers cover it, but only in the United States and Canada, from $1.95/month with inbound and outbound SMS plus browser calling. Myanmar has no self-serve long-term option. If a persistent +95 line matters to your operation, write to [email protected]; the answer depends on local rules and is not guaranteed.
How do +95 numbers look once you strip the local zero?
Myanmar uses the trunk prefix 0. Mobile numbers are written domestically starting with 09, and in international form the 0 is dropped, so they appear as +959 followed by the subscriber digits. Mobile number length is not uniform across operators, so avoid validators that insist on a single fixed length.
Practical rules for a user table:
- Accept input with or without the leading 0 and with spaces, then store one canonical E.164 string.
- Never save both
09…and+959…versions of the same person; deduplicate after normalising. - Log the raw input next to the normalised value while the market is new to you, so format bugs are easy to trace.
What language and script do Myanmar SMS codes arrive in?
International services usually send their verification templates in English or in Burmese, depending on the account's language setting. Burmese text uses its own script, which forces UCS-2 encoding and therefore shorter SMS segments.
Two details deserve attention in localisation QA:
- Font encoding. Myanmar long had two competing encodings for Burmese text, Zawgyi and Unicode. Check that your Burmese templates render correctly on the devices your users actually carry.
- Digits. Burmese has its own numerals. Most services send codes with Western digits, but if your parser uses a broad digit class, decide deliberately whether Burmese numerals should be accepted.
Teams test here because Myanmar users rely heavily on messaging and social apps, and because Southeast Asian rollouts often bundle Myanmar with Thailand and other neighbours for a single localisation pass.
Which endpoints run the Myanmar OTP API flow?
Authenticate against https://otproute.com/api/v1 with a Bearer key beginning or_live_. Myanmar's country id is mm.
First, check the route: GET /api/v1/prices?country=mm&service=<id> returns the live price and tells you whether numbers are available at that moment. Then order with POST /api/v1/activations, sending {"service": "viber", "country": "mm"} or whichever service id you need, and keep the returned activation id. After your app sends the SMS, either wait for the activation.sms_received webhook or poll GET /api/v1/activations/{id}. Cancel with POST /api/v1/activations/{id}/cancel when a test aborts.
Each account can hold up to 10 API keys and 5 webhook endpoints, with a limit of 300 requests per minute. Webhooks are signed with X-OTPRoute-Signature: t=<unix>,v1=<hex>; recompute the HMAC-SHA256 over the timestamp, a dot and the raw body, and reject old timestamps. The webhook capture guide shows a handler pattern.
Without code, the dashboard offers the same path: pick Myanmar, pick the service, accept the displayed price and read the code when it lands.
Which apps have +95 routes right now?
More than 1,000 services currently list Myanmar routes. Among the popular ones are Viber, Facebook, Telegram, WhatsApp, Google (Gmail & YouTube), TikTok, Instagram, Signal, WeChat, Microsoft & Outlook, LINE and imo. Viber and Facebook are especially familiar to Myanmar users, which makes them common subjects for local QA. Treat the list as a snapshot and let the prices endpoint decide.
No code yet: how should a Myanmar test react?
Let the 20-minute window run its course instead of cancelling early. When it closes without an SMS, the activation expires and your wallet is refunded in full, automatically.
After an expiry, check whether the service accepts virtual numbers for that step, retry later or through another service route, and slow down any automation that re-orders immediately. Repeated instant retries rarely help and can trip the service's own limits. A broader checklist is in reducing failed OTP deliveries.
How do payments and test environments work?
There is one prepaid USD wallet with pay-as-you-go pricing: no subscription and no plan. Fund it by card or with USDT/USDC stablecoins and receive a PDF invoice by email for each top-up and number purchase. A development account can be moved to sandbox on request so your CI pipeline can exercise simulated numbers and codes without touching real funds. Follow each service's terms; the OTP Route Acceptable Use Policy applies to every order.
Frequently asked questions
Can I receive a Myanmar SMS OTP without being in Myanmar?
Yes. Order a +95 number from the OTP Gateway, trigger the code from the service, and read it in the dashboard or through the API from anywhere.
Should I store Myanmar numbers as 09 or +959?
Store the E.164 form beginning with +959 and drop the domestic trunk 0. Accept both styles on input and normalise before saving.
What is Myanmar's country id in the API?
It is mm, used in GET /api/v1/prices and in the POST /api/v1/activations body.
Why did my Burmese template arrive split into several messages?
Burmese script needs UCS-2 encoding, which holds fewer characters per segment. Put the code early in the text so it is readable even if the message splits.
What happens to my money if the +95 code never arrives?
Nothing is lost. After 20 minutes without an SMS, or on cancellation, the full amount returns to your wallet automatically.
Can OTP Route give me a long-term Myanmar number?
There is no self-serve Myanmar line. Dedicated Numbers exist only for the United States and Canada; you can email [email protected] to ask about other markets.
